Why the Indian Wells Residence Benefit Card Has a Short Fall Season

Nicole Cox  |  October 22, 2026

The Indian Wells Residence Benefit Card runs on the calendar year. The cheapest resident round at the city-owned Indian Wells Golf Resort costs $35 and lasts through December 31. From October 25 into mid-November, both of the resort's 18-hole courses are listed as closed for overseed. Taken together, those three facts mean the card's best fall golf value comes down to about seven weeks, from mid-November to New Year's Eve, and those weeks start with cart-path-only play.

Most of the card's fall value sits in that window. The parts that keep working while the fairways grow in are the dining discounts, the night golf and the resort perks along Indian Wells Lane. They make it worth carrying the card every day of the week.

Two Courses, One Closure Window

Many clubs stagger their overseed so members always have somewhere to play. The resort's posted schedules show the Players and Celebrity courses closed at overlapping times this fall. The City of Indian Wells calendar lists the Players Course overseed from October 25 to November 12, with cart-path-only play until December 3. During the week of October 18, the resort's own course calendar already listed the Celebrity Course as "Course Closed until Nov 13," followed by "Cart path only for 2-3 weeks to follow once opened."

The two calendars come from different publishers, and overseed dates tend to shift with weather. Call the resort at (760) 346-4653 before you plan a first round for mid-November. On the posted dates, both courses come back around November 13. That gives cardholders about seven weeks of $35 golf before the rate changes, and the first few of those weeks are cart-path only.

What Seven Weeks at $35 Buys

The city's golf and tennis benefits page sets the resident green fee at $35 from May 1 through December 31. The fee rises to $50 from January 1 through April 30. A same-day walk-up resident rate is also listed at $35. That means the coldest, busiest months of the year cost $15 more per round than the first weeks after overseed.

Guests notice the seasonal change more than residents do. Since October 1, an accompanied resident guest has paid $110 a round, Monday through Sunday, and that rate holds through April 30. In September the same guest paid $65 on weekdays and $75 on weekends. In a December foursome, a cardholder pays $35 while a houseguest in the same cart pays $110.

Booking follows strict rules. Residents can reserve tee times up to 14 days ahead, starting at 12:00 a.m. Pacific. Every tee time must be prepaid online or by phone. The resident booking portal lets one cardholder book their guests in the same transaction. List the resident as "Player 1." If another player in the group also holds a card, search their last name and switch them to the resident rate. With a 14-day window, the first post-overseed tee times around November 13 open at the end of October.

The Course You Get Back Hosted a Tour Finale This Month

The Players Course you can book in November has changed a lot since many seasonal owners last played it in spring 2025. Golfweek reported that it officially reopened with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, after a $13 million renovation by John Fought. Tee times opened a few days early, on Black Friday, so the resort could run all 36 holes over the holiday weekend.

The biggest change is the routing. According to the resort's renovation announcement, the par-3 17th and par-4 18th used to be the only holes south of the Whitewater Wash. They now play north of it, with the rest of the course. The par-5 ninth moved closer to the clubhouse, and the course went from par 72 to par 71. Golfweek noted that eleven of the 18 holes kept their layouts but got new greens, tees and irrigation. In the resort's announcement, Fought set out what the work was for:

"We are excited to enhance one of the great municipal golf courses in the U.S. The Players Course will become a true championship layout that will challenge the best players in the game and provide a wonderful experience for golfers of all skill levels."

It has already been tested. NBC Palm Springs reported that the Epson Tour Championship ran on the redesigned Players Course from September 28 through October 4, and the top 15 finishers earned 2027 LPGA Tour cards. When the overseed ends, a cardholder can play the same finishing holes for $35 through New Year's Eve.

While the Fairways Grow In, the Card Works After Dark

Overseed closes the courses, but the rest of the resort stays open. Shots in the Night reopens Friday, October 30. The resort describes it as laser putting on seven lit greens plus a Toptracer range with glowing targets and balls. The city's resort benefits page lists a Thursday-night offer. When a cardholder is part of the playing group, the group gets buy-one-round-get-one-free, plus 20% off food from the food truck. The Social card qualifies too, so you don't need the golf upgrade. The first Thursday after the reopening is November 5, which falls while both courses are still listed as closed.

Kestrel, A Richard Blais Kitchen & Lounge, is the other year-round anchor at the resort. The Coachella Valley Independent reported that Blais had opened it in November 2024. According to Kestrel's menu page, the Fall-Winter 2026-2027 menus are now posted. Lunch runs Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Kocktail Hour runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Dinner is served Monday through Saturday until 9 p.m., and Sunday brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cardholders get 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages, but only at certain times. The city's two benefit pages describe those times differently. The resort benefits page lists breakfast, lunch and Thursday nights, excluding Happy Hour. The golf and tennis page lists breakfast and lunch only, and also excludes Night Golf and parties of 10 or more. A weekday lunch qualifies under both versions. For a Thursday dinner, ask before you order. The same card takes 20% off resort merchandise, excluding sale items and hard goods.

Down Indian Wells Lane and Highway 111

The card also works at all four resort hotels. The terms on the city's resort, spa and restaurant page are below, and the city notes that hotels can change discounts at their discretion:

  • Indian Wells Resort Hotel, 76-661 Highway 111: 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages, except special performances.
  • Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa, 45-000 Indian Wells Lane: 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages, and 20% off spa services Sunday through Thursday.
  • Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, 44-000 Indian Wells Lane: 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages, and 20% off à la carte spa services Monday through Thursday or 15% Friday through Sunday, holidays excluded. Rooms are 15% off with code L9Z, up to two rooms, subject to availability and blackout dates.
  • Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Resort & Villas, 44-600 Indian Wells Lane: 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages, 20% off spa services, free use of the workout room, and 10% off most purchases at The Citrus.

The Grand Hyatt discount now applies to a much newer property. Hotel Business reported on October 15 that the resort recently completed a $62 million renovation and conversion to the Grand Hyatt brand, and that JLL arranged $210 million in financing for it. The Renaissance room code is useful during the holidays. Overflow family can stay a few doors from the golf resort at 15% off, with the tax and daily resort fee added on top. At the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, cardholders get 10% off pro shop merchandise all year except during BNP Paribas Open weeks, plus a discount on tennis membership.

The city's own calendar also has an event in the overseed window. The Veterans Day Ceremony takes place at City Hall on November 11, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Card Itself Runs Out With the $35 Rate

Every card ends on the same day as the low green fee. Under the city's Residence Benefit Card resolution, a card is valid only through December 31 of the year it was issued. The card page offers two versions. The Social card costs $5 and covers every city benefit except the resident golf rate. The Golf card costs $45 and covers everything, golf included. A printed card adds $5 to either. For a cardholder who would otherwise bring a friend as a $110 guest, the $40 difference between the two cards is less than the gap on one winter round.

Each eligible property can buy up to two cards per calendar year. Dependent children under 21 of a qualified resident can also buy cards. The online form is for renewals only. New residents, first-time cardholders and anyone who recently changed properties in Indian Wells has to apply in person at City Hall with a picture ID and proof of residency. The page says 2027 card details are "coming out soon."

For seasonal owners, the 2017 resolution issues cards to owners of record of a lawfully occupied residential lot. Proof of ownership can be a listing on the Riverside County tax rolls or a recorded grant or quitclaim deed. Renters who don't own the property apply under a separate full-time resident route, which requires the owner's written permission and a filed lease. These are the city's rules as published, and this is general information rather than legal advice. For your own situation, check with City Hall at (760) 776-0235 or [email protected].
